The Lynx Land Case Study
Black oak forest (mostly in Sabugal), holm oak and cork oak forest and agroforestry, agrosilvopastoral mosaics – bocage landscape (mostly in Sabugal), mediterranean scrubland (strawberry tree); eucalyptus forest (mostly in Penamacor), pine forests, chestnut orchards (mostly in Sabugal); traditional olive groves
Objectives
Evaluate the fire management regime in two different types of forests, using a control areas with “no management”
Local Focus
We intend to assess two different forest types, namely a native forest composed of oak (Quercus pyrenaica) and a planted one composed of Pine (Pinus pinaster) and two types of management (Agroforestry with Cattle and traditional Silvicultural regime), contrasted with same context but with no management in place. In an ideal scenario we could use age as a factor with young vs mature stans (x2 = 24 sample sites) sampled once (during 2024). If not possible we use a mature stand (12 sample sites) à 2 temporal replicates (2024 & 2026 sampling seasons).
