Castel Volturno Case Study
Evaluation of the production performance of different maize hybrids in relation to three different managements: monoculture, green manure, and green manure + compost. The experimental site belongs to the experimental farm of the Federico II University and is located in Castel Volturno, near Naples. The experimentation started in 1998 and involves the comparison between single-crop maize (many hybrids) and green manure application with field beans. Since 2012, compost has been added to the rotations.
Objectives
- Evaluation of the performance of different hybrids of maize supplied by the seed company LIMAGRAIN in relation to three different managements: monoculture, green manure use, composting.
Local Focus
- Qualitative-quantitative evaluation of different maize hybrids destined to feed water buffaloes for PDO mozzarella cheese production.
